What can we say or do, right now, to change the world?
SAY SOMETHING DO SOMETHING is a new intergenerational project by Spark Youth Theatre where young and older people from Sydney's inner west will come together to question the potential for words, actions and theatre to make a difference... no matter how small.
Calling for participants between 12-18... AND... 55 years plus who are eager to express themselves and push the boundaries of what theatre can DO!
Facilitated by Artistic Director Chris Dunstan and local animator and visual DJ artist Effy Marie Smith, ensemble members will be asked to respond to 84.4 questions (given the average life expectancy of someone living in the inner west is 84.4 years) in whatever way they like. What were your first words? What would you like your last words to be? Is there something you've dreamed of doing onstage? What shouldn't be done onstage? The group's responses will be used to generate text, performance, drawings, sound, video, animation and more that will be woven into a multimedia piece of theatre archiving the early and later stages of a life lived in the inner west.
SAY SOMETHING DO SOMETHING is about creating a snapshot of our inner west community through words and actions and trying to understand what kind of legacy this leaves (if any). We're looking for a mixture of personalities and backgrounds to form an intergenerational ensemble representative of the area in its entirety. NO theatre experience required. Just a commitment to having fun, being creative in whatever way suits you best, and leaving no rock unturned!
