2019 Weekly Workshops for Term 2 and 3.

2019 is well and truly underway and now it’s time to jump into something new and exciting.  Every Wednesday Spark Youth Theatre runs FREE weekly theatre and performance workshops and we want YOU to come along. Each workshop is run by industry professionals from a variety of performance backgrounds. If you are interested in writing, acting, directing, singing, moving all of the above AND everything in between we have something that will SPARK your curiosity!

Find your inner clown, take some acting 101, travel back in time and discover the enduring brilliance of Commedia del’Arte. Lean how to develop that script that's sitting on your computer, brush up your Shakespeare and find the right note to sing.

It’s back to basic for the first Spark Workshop of the year. Learn about the fundamentals of performing for the stage. Free your natural expressivity and build your confidence speaking in character. Learn ways to prepare your body and voice to prepare for the challenge of bringing a complex role to life.  Work on the building blocks of acting and RE-acting to your scene partner in this crash course for actor new and returning. See Felicity’s bio here.

‘Finding Your Idiot - An Introduction to Clown ‘ with Kate Walder

Dates: (3 week block)  Weds 8th May, Weds 15th May, Weds 22nd May 2019 @ 4:30 -6:30

We all have an inner idiot. The beautiful fool who looks to the world with hope and courage but flops over and over again, attempting to achieve their goal. In this introductory workshop we will explore the techniques of clown and how to discover the clown within us. No experience necessary, just a willingness to be brave, playful and explore the ridiculous.  See Kate’s bio here.

‘The Arte of Commedia’ with Scott Parker of Matriark Theatre

Date: (4 week block)  Weds 29th May, Weds 5th June, Weds 12th June, Weds 19th June 2019 @ 4:30 - 6:30

Commedia dell'Arte forms the foundation of modern comedy, a renaissance theatre of mask, crude comedy and high-energy, physical performance. In these four workshops, Matriark's Creative Director, Scott Parker will teach the basics of Commedia, it's characters, masks and the numerous ways it can transform our performance.

Whether you are working in theatre, performance, film or television your focus as performers is on creating believable characters that help to tell the story. Theatre director and actor Emilia Stubbs Grigoriou works with you to create characters and develop some scene work.

Spark will take a break over the school holidays, use the time to rest well and tell your friends about Spark because in Term Three Spark is going BIG!
